Did you know that Des Arc Was once Three small Villages
Bethlehem, Shaversville, Des Arc. And most of it was in Wayne Co. That is the reason when some look for items that (they think) happened in Des Arc, it cant be found until you look in Wayne Co archives.  (Feb. 17th 1857 Waynce Co lost Des Arc, Vulcan, to Iron CO.) (Wayne Co Court house burned in 1854) Piedmont Library
At one time we had a Bank, the Railroad came right thru the midde of town. There where 7 Groceries, Sundries stores, Stock Yards, Blacksmiths and numerous churches

FIRST TRAIN RIGHT NEXT DOOR TO DES ARC..OUR BIGGEST LINK TO HISTORY, IS GADS HILLS LOCATED 5 MILES SOUTH OF DES ARC

The first Post Office in Des Arc was opened in
September 1871
and the first Postmaster was John Haefner
Des Arc's Bank was opened in 1900's and closed in 1935 during the Depression the  first cashier was J.L.Strade in the spring of 1929 cashier E.W. Cook was shot and killed during an attempted bank robbery.
the  Handel Mill Was built by Eugene Graves
  The Grist Mill and the Blacksmith Shop where owned by J.W. Robinson from 1900-1930.
The Wallis Hotel burned to the ground was not rebuilt
prior to  1930.
Maybe some day I will find photos of these grand old places to share here also!
During the 1915's area water supply was drying to a dangerous level before city water and sewer. The town fathers
raised enough money to have the town well drilled. this was a great meeting place better than the MALL or coffee shop
the Pump and Well are still operational today. and the Water is still as sweet and clear as it was then

We have clear beautiful streams, laid back country roads, rolling hills,
and wonderful people.
